It’s high time for you to meet the much-loved charcuterie board’s new competition–the quick and easy butter board! Bringing a modern twist to a traditional bread and butter snack, this quick recipe will delight dinner guests with bold herbaceous flavors and has the added bonus of being able to be prepared ahead of time. Experiment with a variety of savory, spicy, or sweet ingredients to keep things fresh and interesting from one gathering to the next. Try these two tasty combinations to get you started.
Ingredients
Roasted Garlic Board:
2 cups butter
About 16 roasted garlic cloves
(Note: To roast garlic, cut ¼” off top of 2 garlic bulbs to expose the top of the cloves. Drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil, and roast at 400° for 40-60 minutes until soft enough to spread.)
2-3 Tbsp chopped fresh herbs (we used parsley, rosemary, chives, and thyme)
¼ cup toasted pepitas
Zest of 1 lemon
Cracked pepper to taste
Sea salt flakes to taste
Drizzle of Meyer lemon olive oil
Fall Flavor Board:
2 cups butter
2-3 Tbsp chopped fresh herbs (we used parsley, rosemary, chives, and thyme)
Approx ¼ cup thinly sliced shallots
Approx ⅓ cup dried cranberries
4 slices crispy prosciutto
Zest of 1 orange
Cracked pepper to taste
Sea salt flakes to taste
Drizzle of Calabrian chile & garlic olive oil
Prep Time:
20 minutes - 1 hour (depending on ingredient choices)
Keeps:
Refrigerate any leftover butter in an airtight container for up to a week to use in other recipes. It tastes great on meats or vegetables!
Preparation
Step 1:
Spread softened butter on a wooden board or serving tray (similar to what you would use for a charcuterie board).
Step 2:
Add a dusting of salt flakes, pepper and citrus zest.
Step 3:
Add any toppings you choose and then sprinkle with herbs.
Step 4:
Drizzle with olive oil.
Step 5:
Serve with herb-coated bread, assorted crusty breads, crackers, and/or vegetables.
